What is dry hire, and is it right for your wedding?

Wedding Planning - 03.09.26

However you picture your wedding day, Braxted Park Estate is designed to be tailored around you. For some couples, that means working closely with our in-house catering team. For others, it means bringing in a caterer of their own, perhaps one who has prepared their family’s recipes for generations, or who understands a particular tradition inside out. That second route is what we call dry hire, and it’s simply another way of shaping your day around your own vision.

So, what exactly is dry hire?

In simple terms, dry hire means booking Braxted Park Estate for your exclusive use, without catering included. We provide the venue, with capacity for up to 350 guests, and you bring in the caterer of your choosing. No set menu, no house supplier list, no compromise.

This makes dry hire particularly well-suited to couples with specific cultural requirements, be it a vibrant Greek celebration, a soulful Jewish ceremony, an opulent Asian wedding, or an enchanting African gathering. It’s also a natural fit for anyone who simply has a caterer they love and can’t imagine their day without.

Because so much of the day is in your hands, we always recommend arranging a wedding coordinator when booking the dry hire option. They’ll help everything run smoothly, from deliveries to timings, so you’re free to enjoy every moment rather than manage it.

How does it differ from a standard booking?

With most wedding packages, catering, and often several other elements, come bundled in alongside the venue. Dry hire strips that back. What you’re left with is the estate itself: 500 acres of grounds, our historic spaces, and the freedom to fill them however you choose. Think of it less as a finished template and more as a magnificent, blank canvas.

Spaces made for making an entrance

Every part of Braxted Park Estate has been shaped to captivate, whatever form your celebration takes.

The Orangery – A light-filled, elegant room, equally at home hosting a ceremony or a round of pre-reception drinks.

The Pavilion – Our grandest setting, with room for 350 guests, built for lavish receptions and dancing long into the evening.

The Grounds – A serene retreat of gardens and parkland, where guests can wander, mingle and take in the estate’s beauty between celebrations.

From the sweep of the historic driveway to the tranquillity of the walled garden, every corner has been considered so that no detail of your day feels like an afterthought.

Is dry hire right for you?

If you already have a vision, whether that’s a ceremonial feast rooted in generations of custom, or a contemporary menu that reflects who you are as a couple, dry hire lets you bring it to life without adapting it to fit someone else’s framework. You choose the caterers, the decorators, the planners. We provide the setting and the support to make it happen.

Every couple’s story is different, and at Braxted Park Estate, we believe your wedding should be distinctively yours. Dry hire is simply our way of making sure it can be.
