Braxted Park’s guide to wedding favours

Inspiration - 14.04.16

Wedding favours are a lovely little detail that can have a huge impact on your guest’s experience of your big day.

Favours are usually a simple, inexpensive gift from you to your guests that act as a memento of your special day and an offer of thanks to them for attending. Whether they’re devoured immediately or found in handbags and pockets the following morning, wedding favours serve as a fun memory of an incredibly special day.

Let’s take a look at some of the most loved wedding favours for your reception at Braxted Park.

1. Edible Treats

Traditionally, sugared almonds were given as wedding favours; however, couples are now branching out to gift a whole range of other sweet and savoury delights.

Pots of jam, honey or chutney are a lovely favour for a country wedding here at Braxted Park, and it’s something your guests can take home to enjoy.

Cookies and chocolates are another popular choice for a wedding favour. Personalise with your initials and the wedding date, or write your guests’ names on them so they can double up as place cards.

Popcorn is a popular choice for fun and personalised wedding favour treats. You can present them in decorative jars or bags for guests to take home and enjoy; why not invent quirky flavours like gin & tonic or try dying the popcorn to match your chosen colour scheme?

With edible treats, the creative possibilities are endless. From flavour to presentation, you can really go to town.

2. Individual beverage ticket

Why not include individual drink tickets or tokens beside each place name? Tickets read ‘this one is on us’ and offer each guest a drink from the newlyweds. This fuss-free favour screams ‘cool’ and is cost-conscious too.

3. Grown-up fun

Add an extra element of grown-up fun to the proceedings by choosing lottery tickets or party games as favours. You’ll hear the excitement on each table as guests celebrate lotto wins and get to know everyone else by participating in fun party games.

4. Personalised candles

Candle wedding favours are a great gift; you can spend as much or as little as you like on them. For high-end favours, you could attend a candle-making class to ensure your personalised candles are unique to you. For budget favours, these Ikea Sinnlig scented candles in a glass are great value at 85p each. We love the idea of alternating the colours between male and female guests, for example, grey and white. If you’re feeling really creative, why not print your own design onto the glass with printable self-adhesive transparent film paper?

5. DIY heart-shaped tea bags

A British favourite with a twist. If you’re both tea lovers (who isn’t), these heart-shaped tea bags are super easy to make and can be further personalised by coordinating thread colours with your wedding palette. You could even choose a blend of tea you have both picked out personally.

6. Think seasonal

Consider the season. A bauble or Christmas tree decoration is a lovely choice for a December favour and will guarantee your tables look incredible. Miniature hot chocolate or s’more kits are great for autumn and winter, or you could even opt for chocolate stirrer favours, especially if you plan to have a hot chocolate stall at your wedding.

Succulents, plants or potted herbs make great summertime wedding favours, as do daffodils in springtime.

7. Flower Seed Packets

An environmentally friendly choice, flower seed packets filled with seeds of your choice are thoughtful, usable gifts that can be personalised and look great on a table. Choose something perennial, and guests will forever have a memory of your wedding day blooming in their very own garden.

8. Children’s wedding favours

If you have children attending your wedding reception, treating them to wedding favours in the form of toys, games, and treats is an instant win.

Think paper spinners, colouring sets, mini Connect 4 and sticker books for relaxed wedding breakfast entertainment. We love these Make Your Own Superhero Mask Kits which encourage creativity and will stay with the children all evening, making for fun photographs as they play on the dancefloor.

Lego, bracelet-making kits, jigsaw puzzles and anything that requires building or piecing together parts will keep children entertained for hours, serving as a great distraction during wedding speeches.
