5 Things to Consider When Setting a Date

Wedding Planning - 16.01.19

If you have yet to set your special date, it’s time to get the diary out! Our top tips are here to give you a helping hand, whether you have your heart set on an outdoor summer celebration or a cosy winter wedding.

1. Ceremony Style

As you plan your wedding, you’re likely to be thinking about the moment when you say ‘I do’. If that vision takes you to the walled garden at Braxted Park, it goes without saying that it’s a good idea to choose a date when you’re more likely to get good weather.

If your ceremony style includes ambient lighting and a cosy vibe in our elegant Orangery, choose a date where you can relish being indoors on a cooler day.

2. In the Season

While it might sound obvious, when setting your wedding date, always choose a season that you love and embrace it. Select flowers and food that flourish at that time of year and make it a part of your day. You might love the idea of a festive wedding complete with Christmas tree, or have your heart set on a bouquet filled with summer blooms. The weather can never be entirely relied upon but, even if it rains on a summer wedding day, the vibe of the season will shine through.

3. All About Fashion

While it might not completely dictate your wedding date, you might want to consider your wedding attire when looking at the diary. A spring or summer wedding gives you the opportunity to wear a lighter gown, perhaps sleeveless in style, while the cooler months offer the perfect backdrop to a gown with sleeves or perhaps a wonderful faux-fur cape. Whatever you choose, prepare for all eventualities with a wrap, parasol and umbrella!

4. That’s Entertainment

Entertainment is a key element of every wedding and, at Braxted Park, our spaces lend themselves wonderfully to so many options. If you would like to have garden games or you’re inviting a number of children to your wedding, it makes sense to choose a spring or summer date. A treasure hunt in the garden is always popular. Equally, if you love the idea of sparklers on a winters evening or a black-tie dinner by candlelight, it sounds like an autumn or winter wedding is your thing.

5. Practical Choices

Of course, whatever your preferences, there are practical considerations to be made during your wedding planning. If you have a number of guests travelling from overseas, you might think about when would be easiest (or least expensive) for them to travel. It can also be a good idea to avoid key dates such as Mother’s Day or Valentine’s Day when flowers can be expensive. You might plan your wedding day to coincide with a special birthday or anniversary. The choice is yours!
