Happy Marriage Week

Inspiration - 25.01.17

Marriages need nurturing in order to grow and to flourish, and this can have many benefits on wider society.

There is a lot of emphasis on the wedding day and how it’s all going to pan out, but really this special day is just the start of a very exciting journey: married life.

Each year between the 7th-14th February is the Marriage Foundation’s special observance, Marriage Week; an event which aims to highlight the many benefits a healthy marriage can have on society, media, and the government, as well as encouraging couples to celebrate their committed life together. First established in 1997, the week is aptly timed to include the most romantic day of all – Valentine’s Day.

Numerous charities, societies, businesses, and individuals are advocates of Marriage Week, sharing the belief that strong marriages can provide many benefits to all members of society, and so should be supported and encouraged as much as possible.

The week serves as an important reminder that marriages need nurturing in order to grow and to flourish. In modern society, we are all very busy juggling day-to-day life, like looking after children, our careers and study, running a happy household, hobbies and so on, and in the midst of all this activity, it’s difficult to find the time to look after and improve our marriages.

The Marriage Foundation aims to encourage every couple to take some time out of everyday stresses and make a date just for the two of you. There are lots of ideas on the Marriage Week website for those couples who would like to get involved.

Here are a few of our favourites:

  • – Renew wedding vows
  • – Write love notes to each other and hide them around the home for each to find
  • – Invite other married couples over for a romantic meal
  • – Organise a special night out together
  • – Watch a film, read a book, or listen to some music together
  • – Take a trip down memory lane, look back at old photos, and reminisce your courting days
